ABOUT THE LODGE:

The lodge is built according to the Achuar concept of architecture - there is not a single nail used.

To the left of the pier-boardwalk is the lobby, bar and library; to the right is the dining room and kitchen.

At the back of the pier-boardwalk is the Hammocks Room. Cabanas are to the left and the right, all fronting Kapawi Lake.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
a raised boardwalk connects all of the guests cabins and the several large communal buildings at Kapawi, all of which rest on stilts around the edge of an ephemeral lagoon crowded with plant and bird life. There are 19 double rooms, each with private baths. Some of the rooms can also be converted to triples and some of the rooms share a balcony looking on to the lagoon and are ideal as family accommodations.

Each of the thatched roof guest cabins is an expression of authentic, traditional Achuar design concepts, meaning that they are attractive, spacious, sustainable, well-ventilated, and creature-proof. Each cabin has a spacious screened-in sleeping area and private bath with solar heated hot water available on most afternoons. Cabins are fully screened - windows, floors, roofs - and each bed has its own mosquito net. Every room is equipped with a security box. On your balcony you can relax in a hammock or deck chair and observe the daily visitors: ducks, hummingbirds, egrets, and kingfishers. You can listen to the night music of the multitude of frogs and other nocturnal creatures.

DINING: Meals are a tasty combination of international cuisine and local foods, and a wide variety of exotic fruits. Soft drinks, snacks and hot water for coffee and tea are available all day.

  • A light breakfast is provided to birdwatchers at 5AM on. Breakfast is available from 7AM on.
  • Lunch is provided in the dining room from 1230 on. Box lunches are provided for full day trips.
  • Dinner is served from 7PM on.

BAR: There is a cozy, well stocked bar.

LIBRARY: A well endowed library is open all day. Paperbacks, magazines and books are available.

BOUTIQUE: A small boutique stocks essential items as well as handicrafts and souvenirs.

SERVICES AND USEFUL INFORMATION ON KAPAWI:

Energy
A solar system at Kapawi supplies the energy needsof the lodge and is supplemented by a backup generator. All guest rooms have 110 volt power, are efficiently illuminated with energy-saving lamps, and have electric outlets for recharging camera or personal device batteries. No artificial illumination exists along the boardwalks since it could modify the behavior of nocturnal animals. You will need to bring a flashlight with you for use when walking to and from your room at night .

Water
All drinking water at the Lodge is filtered through a flush-back and sand filter, and finally purified with ozone. We provide glass carafes of purified water in your room, and there is always a large dispenser of purified drinking water available in the dining room.

Security
At Kapawi you do not need to lock your room. It is a very safe environment; however, each room does have a security box where you can keep your valuables. There is also a safe in the main office at the lodge.

Money
All bar and boutique-shop purchases are charged on your tab during you stay. Your bill can be settled in cash, travelers' checks or credit card, but only Mastercard or Visa. To make purchases of handicrafts in the local communities, you should carry with you small bills as they will not be able to make change We suggest you to bring small bills for any purchase at the local villages for handy crafts. We accept only MasterCard and visa and traveler's cheques.

Swimming
Swimming can be safely done in the lakes and rivers around the lodge. The water temperature is perfect and refreshing. Swimming, or just gently drifting down a river in a rubber inner tube, can be a highlight of your stay so be sure to bring a bathing suit.
